之前提到的NewsFire，如今試用期已過，再用要付款US$18.99，又回到NetNewsWire Lite的懷抱，幸好它沒有讓我失望，速度比從前提昇不少，外觀改善了，link 旁邊有favicon，而且閱讀畫面有二十多個theme 選擇，我選了BeOS，用BeOS 的window 來看news feed，算是另一種視覺享受及向BeOS 致敬。
想起BeOS 的創辦人Jean-Louis Gassée，他談到自己的談判策略時說：”I’ve got them by the balls, and I’m going to squeeze until it hurts.” 這是我從Apple Confidential 2.0 中看到的，網上有1.0 的excerpt 參閱。顯然他與Apple 交易的時太過用力，嚇跑了Amelio。
提到Apple Confidential，順道拜訪了作者Owen W. Linzmayer的個人網頁，除了寫作，他是名活躍的紙幣收藏家，看他賣的鈔票，1999 年的港紙五百元索價US$95，都幾發喎！

Interesting story about Apple’s acquisition of NeXT. Gasee is probably kicking himself to this day. Still, it’s better for us that things played out the way they did.

If Apple hadn’t bought NeXT, we never know what would the present OS X looks like. Sometimes I wonder what would it be if it’s BeOS instead of NeXT. Gassée is the undisputed master of engineering, comparing to OS7.x, BeOS boots faster, applications launch faster, windows resize more smoothly, you can play more simultaneous audio and video clips without affecting system performance. Don’t forget the fact that Be is still a develop’s release back then.
But sometimes, like you said things played out the way they did.
Besides, Graphing Calculator is another interesting story to read. It’s unbelievable insanely geek!
