My Life as Open Source

Despite all my rage I am still just a rat in a cage

A simple reply upon reading sidekick‘s entry of blog host.

Diaryland or Pitas (which works like a bookmark page for Dland) is an online journaling service based in Toronto, it has a friendly web-based interface, only takes a minute to pop in and make a quick entry, and the part I like best is that you can totally customize your HTML, page layout, encoding and everything.

I’ve had a Diaryland journal for the past 4 years, I use the pay option and it’s relatively quick. I personally love Diaryland, I could never keep a real journal, so Dland was the best thing for me.

Diaryland won’t insert banner-ad or pop-up ad into your diary, the only ads are unobtrusive ones for the diaryland site. You also got a neat email address.

Dland’s comment system isn’t for free, but a very good guestbook, created by the same people who came up with Diaryland, can be easily incorporated into your template. You can lock your diary if you don’t want people to read it.

I can’t really compare the reliability of Diaryland from other providers, although membership growth rates occasionally slow down the system for a short time.

In short, I personally don’t see a compelling reason not to choose Diaryland.

Just my half-cent’s worth of information for the day.
