This movie feels so rushed…. I mean they completely SKIP THE WORLD CUP! I mean I didn’t want to see a whole lot, but would say, 30 seconds of it have been too much? And NO Winky. No Dobby. No maze obstacles, other than vines. I was disappointed in the Yule Ball. You didn’t get to see Snape blasting kids out of the bushes. While they showed Harry and Ron not getting dates, because it was all so rushed, you didn’t empathize with the characters in the book, who SPENT TIME in the common room, agonizing over it. But with this style of filmaking, you can’t have students just sitting talking. No, in the background books have to be flying around with CONSTANT CAMERA MOVEMENT AND CUTTING!!!! Really everything great about the book is basically missing in this movie, because it’s in the details, not the CGI dragons, etc. Oh well. I’ll just go back to the books. |

Yes, I agree. This is one of the BIG problems with taking books to screen. So much good stuff has to be sacrificed to keep the movie under 2.5 hours. I knew that a lot of stuff would get cut when I was reading the book. I remember thinking, “How are they going to fit all this into the movie.” And it was the same problem with Prisoner of Azkaban, and they’ll do the same thing with Order of the Phoenix. It’s a tragedy. Each book in the series just kept getting longer and longer, except Half Blood Prince. But unfortunately since these are movies geared primarily towards kids, they’re not going to make a three hour movie. It’s really a pity. Harry Potter as a TV show? Interesting idea.

I am not a HP fan and did read the book.
For me this episode is the best one ever. Perhaps the movie made a compromise for people like me….
Less stressing on the drama, and more actions… Making the general public more like the series.
